Failing a pool barrier inspection is a lot more common than most owners expect — around one in three barriers fail on the first visit. It's rarely a sign of anything seriously wrong; it's usually one or two specific, fixable issues that simply need to be corrected before a Form 23 Certificate of Barrier Compliance can be issued. The re-inspection is the follow-up visit that confirms those fixes and gets you across the line.
What typically needs fixing before a re-inspection
The most common items we see on a first-inspection report are straightforward: a gate hinge or self-closing spring that needs adjusting so the gate reliably closes and latches from any position; pot plants, furniture or garden features moved back from the non-climbable zone; a gap under the fence backfilled or fitted with infill; or overhanging branches trimmed back from the barrier line. Most of these are quick jobs for a handyperson or fencing contractor, often completed within a day or two.
How the re-inspection works
Once the issues from your original report have been addressed, get in touch to book your follow-up visit. Your inspector will specifically check the items identified in the first report, confirm they've been resolved, and reassess the barrier as a whole. If everything now meets the standard, your Form 23 is issued on the spot, the same as a first-time pass.

If your first inspection wasn't with us
We can still carry out a re-inspection if a different provider assessed your barrier initially. In that case, it's treated as a standard inspection at our usual $240 flat fee, since the free re-inspection guarantee applies specifically to inspections originally booked through us.
